Conservationist of the Year, Man of the Century

Last night my father-in-law Dan was awarded the 2006 Chip Allen Conservationist of the Year Award (he is the first ever recipient). My only regret is that this great honor has come after his passing. Dan had a very successful career with Ducks Unlimited as the first regional director in the southeast. During his 32 years of service he was responsible for starting 300 chapters and preserving over 100,000 acres of wildlife habitat. He was the longest serving employee of Ducks Unlimited, an organization that has been around 70 years. Dan was truly a unique individual; humble, caring, and witty. He never met a stranger. He was dedicated to his career, family, and friends. Those who were aquainted with him are better people today having known him...we miss you Dan.

Raw Buffalo Burgers

Me and Amanda

Beau and Amanda

Justin, Beau and Amanda, Me and Jason "All in the Family"

Yesterday reminded me of the movie "Fever Pitch" where Jimmy Fallon's character is interviewed on ESPN about how the Red Sox rank in his life. He put the Red Sox above breathing. I put Georgia football above showering ("Don't judge, you don't know"). Yep, that's right folks our well ran dry again (we knew it would, but the timing was less than perfect). So I apologize for my appearance in these pictures-Jason and I hardly ever get to go out and besides these tickets were my birthday present.

Jason's friend Clint rode with us-he was the photographer...I'll have to get some pictures of him next time. We met up with Jason's cousin's Justin and Beau, and future cousin-in-law Amanda(visit her on my links "hoodie hoopla"). Tailgating was great as always and then we headed to the stadium. It was a great game, well at least the last 40 seconds were. Georgia barely sneaked by with a win against Colorado. I prefer my meat cooked medium well, but the dawgs apparently like their buffalo burgers raw.

I took it for Granite

Due to my stomach virus and the well woes (fixed temporarily, but the story is to be continued) we had to spend a few days with Jason's mom (thank you so much Pat). We were all feeling a little cooped up so once I felt well enough to eat again Granny, David, Papa John, and I went to Stone Mountain Park. We had a nice meal at the commons and then took a short stroll outside. I took this picture of a replica of the mountain's carving inside one of the museums. Time for this blog to get educational. Did you know that the horses have names? I had no idea they were carvings of actual war horses! L-R Jefferson Davis is atop his horse "Blackjack", Robert E. Lee is atop his horse "Traveller", and "Stonewall" Jackson is atop his horse "Little Sorrel" aka "Fancy". I also learned that the parks covered bridge used to be located at/near the University of Georgia, but was bought and moved to the park. Who knew? I guess I took stone mountain for granite.

Today's Events

Playing bumper cars

My sister Lara and nephew Ben came to visit today. She wasn't feeling well on David's birthday (she is pregnant with their 2nd) so she missed the party. They brought David his birthday present. We had a nice time as always except the part where I had to leave to take David to his one year well visit to the doctor. David is in the 50th percentile for both height(30 inches) and weight (22lbs 1.5 oz) Moms, I ask you this: is there anything worse than holding your child in your arms while the nurse gives them a shot? How about when your child starts shaking and screaming in pain while the nurse tells you that the shot stings?

My Men and Long Hair

My hairstylist likes tease me about having "husband hair"-meaning I keep my hair the way my husband likes it (long). This is mostly true. Jason freqently has a pep talk with me before I go to the salon about how much I will cut off and tells me not to distract my hairstylist so she doesn't cut off too much! However, part of me is afraid of how I would look with short hair (when I was younger and in my tomboy phase I had really short hair-It looked awful). Now I have another man in my life (David, of course!) who is unusally attached to my long hair as well. For awhile now he has been playing with my hair while he nurses (pray for me...I just started weaning this week). However, his newest game is to take both hands and mess up my hair really good to where it is all in my face and he can't see me. Then he takes a handful at a time away until he can see my face again. I guess this is his version of "peek-a-boo". It may be awile before I can get up the nerve to chop off all my hair!

David Through The Year

Born in September...

October...

Cotton gin festival in November...

Papa John's birthday in December...

Just one of my favorites!

David will be turning one on Sunday. Wow. Let me take a minute to digest that... I cannot believe how much my life has changed this past year. As much as I could try, I don't think I could put into words the joy he has brought into my life. It is said, a picture is worth a thousand words, therefore over the next few days I will post pictures of David throughout the year. Although it is still developing, you will see his personality. David is shy yet inquisitive, obsitnate yet flexible; an enigma of sorts. I am so thankful for his life and so blessed to be his mama...

Happy First Birthday Davis!

So many presents!

Amanda and Tim (mom and dad)

Is this a cool cake or what?

Happy First Birthday Davis!

Today we made the trek to Oakwood for Davis' first birthday party. He got so many new clothes and toys...where will mom and dad put them all? I can't belive its been a year since Tim called me and told me Amanda was going in for a c-section. Don't you think we should celebrate our mothers on our birthdays? Congratulations Davis, and thank you Amanda for bringing him into this world! Katie I know you have my back on this one.

We Interrupt This Blog To Bring You Football Season

Future QB?

Football season is finally here! The Bulldogs had some great Hilltopper Steaks and served 'em up 48-12. I am sorry to report that NONE of the pictures I took were blog worthy. I will try harder next game.
