SICK and TIRED of being SICK and TIRED

Well, both boys are sick again. We found out Friday that the nasty cold David has is actually RSV which, he so kindly decided to share with his baby brother. Wesley was given a breathing treatment immediately at the doctors office and we were sent home with a prescription for a machine/medicine to administer them to him at home 3x a day. We spent all weekend inside the house trying to nurse them back to health. Saturday, both boys spiked a fever. We treated them both with repeated doses of Tylenol only to have the fever come back again and again. This morning it became obvious that our follow-up appointment originally scheduled for Tuesday couldn't wait even one more day. So, here is the latest. Wesley is no worse nor any better than he was on Friday. We are to continue his breathing treatments and he has another appointment this coming Friday. David has another DOUBLE EAR INFECTION! This can only mean one thing in our future-Tubes. We were given a prescription for another antibiotic (this makes the fourth one he has been on in six weeks) and a referral to an ENT specialist. We probably won't get an appointment until next year. Oh yeah, and did I mention I've been sick too? Fun stuff.

Anyway here is my personal conflict with all of this. I feel a tremendous sense of sadness and guilt for Wesley. When David was Wesley's age, he hadn't even been sick once yet! Wesley has had a sinus infection, two ear infections, and now RSV. He has been on three rounds of antibiotics in his short six months of life! That's Ridiculous!!! I am okay with David getting tubes. I mean, something has to be done-he's been fighting these same ear infection(s) since Halloween! What bothers me though is that he is old enough to understand what is going on and the whole process about being put to sleep will have to be explained to him. Given his nature and personality its not going to go very well. (He still vividly remembers when Wesley was born and is very wary anytime we mention hospitals. He automatically associates a hospital with mommy and daddy leaving for a few days.) I know most of this has come about due to the exposure the boys have had (either directly as in David's case or indirectly as in Wesley's case) to everything at mother's morning out. Honestly, the "time off" was nice, but I really just wanted David socialized since he is naturally such a shy, introverted kid. I am seriously going to have to re-think the benefits versus costs of having David involved in mother's morning out. Sorry if this is sounds more like a vent-I was really just trying to post an update. Please, please pray that my kids get better soon!

Hey girl! Wow -- your boys have been sick! D got the dreaded virus from Preschool, and he has picked up a few things since being there. Luckily he hasn't shared it with his sister! However, as a teacher let me be the first to plug in that you would rather build their immune system up now then when they are in real school!!! It will be better off for Wesley when he is David's age :) Praying for you girl! (and the boys two of course!) RSV is nothing to mess around with especially as young as Wesley is! :(

Wow, I'm so sorry, Andrea. I can't imagine - dealing with one sick child is enough to overwhelm me, so I can't imagine two. Praying they're better soon and that you're encouraged!

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time. I promise tubes are not that big of a deal when it's all over with you'll be SO glad you did it. Lindsay had so many ear infections and we did hers Jan 08 and she's had one infection since then. I hope you guys come through this soon and can enjoy the rest of the holidays!! HUGS TO YOU!!

Bless all your little hearts!! I hate to hear about the tubes. We had seen an ENT for Derrick's back to back EI. After a 5 min look he was ready to do it. I hesitated b/c I was a few weeks away for having Leah. He still to this day has not had one infection after the visit. Poor Wesley, I feel for him.

hey, andrea- sorry to hear about all the illnesses going around. not fun at all. i will say this about mothers' morning out: the first year sutton did it she came home with lots of sniffles and runny noses and such, nothing as serious as RSV though. but now she rarely gets sick. i also rub hand sanitizer on her hands EVERY single time we leave any public place. kids are gonna get sick, one way or another it happens. don't beat yourself up about it. you have years ahead to wallow in guilt about your kids, why start so early? ;-)

I know what you mean... I won't let J go into the nursery at church when I go work out... I only go when a grandparent can keep her. In my head I know it is good for her to get sick, but I just want to protect her from colds... which, by the way, she got one SOMEWHERE... I have no clue from where since I use a cart cover and a high chair cover when we go out.... they just get sick. sigh...
