Playing bumper cars

My sister Lara and nephew Ben came to visit today. She wasn't feeling well on David's birthday (she is pregnant with their 2nd) so she missed the party. They brought David his birthday present. We had a nice time as always except the part where I had to leave to take David to his one year well visit to the doctor. David is in the 50th percentile for both height(30 inches) and weight (22lbs 1.5 oz) Moms, I ask you this: is there anything worse than holding your child in your arms while the nurse gives them a shot? How about when your child starts shaking and screaming in pain while the nurse tells you that the shot stings?

Don't worry--on your second child you really won't care a bit!

I had to hold Logan down once for a shot of Phenergan. He had a stomach virus and threw up way too many times. He was so weak and he used his last bit of energy to cry after the shot. I squalled harder than he did! I always tell them, "I'm sorry honey, but these are good for your body."

The finger pricks aren't too pretty either. :(

Awww, poor David! I can't say I blame him...I still hate shots to this day because of my experiences with shots when I was little. I'm glad to see that David and friends are enjoying Beau and mine's gift. Bumper cars rock:)

Poor David! And poor Andrea! I know that must have been hard.

By the way, David is dangerously cute all on his own. Ben is dangerously cute all on his own. Put them together and oh my god! I cannot wait to have kids. :o)

And the nurse hates giving the shots too... After giving 1000's of shots in my career, I still do not like giving shots because I know it is CAUSING pain. By the way, a secret for adults to remember when they get their shots is to try to totally relax the muscle the shot is being given into. This really seems to help.

But I also know it is VERY hard being the Mom when your child gets the shot too.

Good to have the picture of my two beautiful grandsons together!!!

Andrea,
I'm a little late at checking blogs, but thought I'd leave this anyway. My friend was telling me how she had to hold down her son. He could only see his Mom while he felt the shot and to this day he thinks that she was the one giving it to him. From that point on, she requested another nurse come in and hold him b/c she didn't want her son to think she was the bad guy. That's why Daddy goes with us. He holds Livi and Mommy cries with Livi until they are done. THen I grab her and we cry together.
