On the way to the beach we made our first stop about 20 minutes away from home to pick up a present for Mr. Wesley and Miss Kriss. David said "Beach" and when I informed him we were just at a store he said "Back House" which should have been our first clue that the ride wasn't going to go too well. Jason and I began to rethink the conversation we had with the salesman at the car dealership when we bought the Tahoe.
Salesman: "You should really think about upgrading your package so you can get a DVD player."
Us: "No, Thanks." We grew up with out watching videos in the car and we turned out just fine. Our kid(s) need to learn to use their imagination."
Looking back, I guess the ride to the beach wasn't too bad since it was broken up into two days, but the ride home was down right torturous for me. David insisted that I ride in the back seat with him which gives me motion sickness or at the very least a headache. We were running out of things to occupy him so we started singing...

Hey, you do what you gotta do I guess. The video is precious! Oh, and call me 'mother of the year'... but we sprang for the good ole' DVD player when I bought my new Explorer. I probably should have thought about the kids using their imagination and learning to entertain themselves... but stingy old me cared more for my own sanity!! LOL!! Allie loves it. Hey... you can always buy a portable!!
I admire your decision. I've already thought about what we will do after riding to Diney with Cole. The portables are affordable now, if you change your mind.
You, Jason, and David made your rendition sound like a round (at least I think that's what it's called),
yeah, girl imagination smagination. go get yourself that DVD. hehe. :) but i must say, you have a lovely voice and so does jason. it did sound like a round!!
Bless your heart! I can't imagine. D is a great car rider. So I think on the way to the beach we only stopped once. We stopped twice on the way back. One for me to use the bathroom and the other to eat. The DVD has been the best thing in the world. We got addicted in the expedition so we made sure to get it in the escalade and the minivan. We also have a portable that we can use traveling, but the laptop makes up for that. I did use it once in Tim's car and oh yea - it was great the day D had a stomach bug. We camped out in the master bathroom and watched Backyardigans! LOL What a Day!!! I am a sleeper while traveling so both ways I slept in the back seat. D is usually a sleeper but didn't sleep over 30 min either way to the beach -- he likes to look out the window and tell us what we are passing or what we see. He is also a fan of Backyardigans and the Doodle Bops -- talk about sick -- I am sick of the Doodle Bops!!!
We have the same issue..no DVD and we've looked at the portables (before we went on vacation)but haven't given in yet. I imagine down the road it gets harder. We totally didn't have anything to do in the car growing up...what did we do???
Good luck whatever you decide to do. :)
We didn't spring for the DVD because Olivia's still not interested enough in TV, but we'll have one installed the moment she does show interest..only to be used on long road trips...not every day. Andrea - you do have a great voice!!! American Idol??
SO cute. We got a portable DVD player at Bj's for a great price. I set it up sometimes while I am cooking dinner and watch a movie.
Whoa! I can't believe y'all think I have a good singing voice. I really thought twice about posting it 'cause I don't like the way my voice sounds. Trust me-I can't sing much more than kids songs, but thanks for the compliments.
My sister has a portable DVD player that we might could borrow in the future...I'm with you Bethany-only for long trips road though-not everyday.
um, andrea, sarcasm is really hard to convey on the blog...;) Oh, I KID!!! you are a talent fo' sho'. Girl, to your son you sound like Celine Dion and that's all that matters! He'll always be your number one fan!!! ;)
I know why we didn't need DVD players... we were busy running back and forth on the leather bench seat in the back and playing in the floor board because there was no such thing as car seats. Or we slept on the bed our parents made out of sheets and pillows in the back seat after they tucked the seatbelts in the crack of the seat so as not to "hurt" our backs. ha-ha.
Omg, the Partin chick could not BE more correct...that is EXACTLY how we spent long car trips! Those were the days...our kids have to ride in straight jackets...
Although the video is EXTREMELY cute....I am feeling your pain! I have a portable video player but haven't used it yet. It will be a last resort in the car. I am with on the whole we grew up just fine without them comment.
